Give your mums and dads support when they need it most

The period immediately before and after having a new baby can be one of the most challenging periods in your employee’s life.

And the impacts on the workplace are staggering. The latest research into gender equality issues – displayed above – shows that there is no gender pay gap before the birth of the first child. After becoming a parent for the first time, however, enormous gender pay gaps open up almost immediately and never close. The statistics also mask the physical, mental and emotional difficulties face by new parents, even those that appear to be successful.

You, as an employer, have the opportunity to provide hands-on support at a time when your employees need it most. You can help to make it easier for them to find trusted practitioners who can help to put them on the right track.

Your support could:

• Position your company as family-friendly to attract better employees, particularly women

• Improve engagement and loyalty with your existing teams

• Improve post-parental leave retention (and therefore help to close the gender pay gap)

• Improve the work performance of the secondary carer, who may be suffering from sleep deprivation or highly stressed if their partner is struggling

How it works

You’ll agree a ‘parental support allowance’ that you’ll make available to all parents going on parental leave (a male employee can use Peppy services for himself, his baby and his partner, for example). We recommend that the parental support allowance be set at £500 for each pregnancy, adoption or surrogacy, though it could be as little as £200.

When an employee registers on the Peppy platform for the first time they will be able to access their allowance immediately. They will draw down the allowance when they purchase a practitioner appointment or product listed on the platform. Once the allowance has been used fully they will have the option to purchase further appointments or products using their own funds.

As an employer who values the health and safety of your employees, you’ll know that every practitioner listed on the Peppy platform is fully qualified, fully insured and meets the strict vetting criteria that we’ve agreed with the leading pre/postnatal professional associations and industry experts.

We often hear that money spent on postnatal services such as lactation consultants is literally the best money a person has ever spent. Peppy employers become associated with that feeling.
