Why should I work with a pre and postnatal fitness trainer?
Pre and post-natal fitness instructors can help you strengthen your body and improve your fitness in a safe way, either during your pregnancy or after birth. They will be aware of the major physiological changes in your body and common medical conditions that may impact your ability to exercise.
If you are in any doubt, consult your consultant/ midwife/ GP/ physiotherapist before starting an exercise programme. There are lots of professionals who can help you look after your physical health and wellbeing during pregnancy and beyond. The most important thing is that you get the support and care that is most appropriate to you.
What is a Holistic Core Restore® coach?
Holistic Core Restore® is a holistic wellness programme that is considered to be the UK gold standard when it comes to women’s health coaches. The coaches educate women about their bodies and support a conservative programme of exercise to strengthen and return optimal function to their Pelvic Floor and entire Core. They are used to working with women at every life phase, including pregnancy and post-natal.
Peppy works only with Holistic Core Restore® coaches who are also qualified personal trainers. Other Holistic Core Restore coaches® may be trained as soft tissue therapists, physiotherapists, midwives and other professionals.
Holistic Core Restore® is a holistic wellness programme and is not intended as a medical or diagnostic advice. You can find more details on their medical disclaimer here. The coaches often work closely with women’s health (POG) physiotherapists and are used to referring clients to them for initial assessments and ongoing support.
Holistic Core Restore® coach is a licensed title issued by Burrell Education. Burrell Education is a private education company that focuses on women’s health and fitness.
I’m in my third trimester – can I still consider working with a fitness instructor?
As long as you want to, and your pregnancy is normal and healthy, a fitness instructor or personal trainer can help you to exercise in a way that is appropriate for your body and energy levels. If you are in any doubt, consult your consultant/ midwife/ GP/ physiotherapist before starting an exercise programme.
You can find some advice about exercising safely during pregnancy from the Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy Association here.
How soon after birth can I exercise with a fitness instructor?
You should wait for your six week check and get your GP’s guidance on whether it is safe for you to start exercising. An exercise professional should not agree to work with you before your GP has signed you off for exercise. They may also recommend that you see a women’s health (POG) physiotherapist before starting exercise. They will work with you to gradually build up strength and fitness as your body recovers at its own pace.
Can I bring my baby with me to the training session?
Please discuss this directly with the fitness instructor. Some personal trainers will do sessions in your own home where they can work around your baby, or even incorporate them into your workout!← Back
